Blacks Not to be Excluded

Nov. 13, 1940 U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Blacks cannot be excluded from white neighborhoods.

Riots occurred in Los Angeles, California June 4, 1943
Riots broke out in Detroit, Michigan on June 20, 1943.
There were 600 wounded, 34 dead (25 Black), and 36 hours of rioting.
Aug. 1, 1943, race riots occurred in N.Y.C. Harlem section.


Refused to give up his Seat
July 6, 1944 Lt. Jackie Robinson of the U.S. Army refused to give up his seat to a white man. He was court-marshaled but acquitted.
